Dental veneers are thin, tooth-colored porcelain shells that go over the front of teeth to improve their appearance. They are custom-made for each patient to ensure the most natural look possible.
Patients often choose dental veneers as a way to permanently conceal chipped, broken, misshapen, stained or discolored teeth. Others may choose this solution because they simply want perfect-looking teeth.
While porcelain dental veneers are only a few millimeters thick, they are very durable and with proper care, they can last up to ten years. One of the biggest benefits of dental veneers is that they’re sized and shaped according to your natural teeth, so they won’t look out of place in your smile.
Dental Veneers Procedure
The procedure for placing dental veneers begins with a dental exam in which case one of our dentists will also take impressions and x-rays of your teeth that will be used to design your custom dental veneers. The collected information is sent to a laboratory and your dental veneers are ready within a couple of weeks.
In most cases, the dental veneers can be placed in one appointment. To do this, our dental expert will prepare the surfaces of your teeth by removing a thin layer of the tooth enamel which makes room for the thickness of the porcelain shells. Your teeth will then be cleaned and buffed and our dentist will roughen the surfaces to ensure that the dental veneers adhere properly.
One of our dentists will first place your dental veneers without the bonding compound to make sure they fit correctly; if they don’t, adjustments are performed before placement. Once our dental technician is certain that your dental veneers will fit correctly, a dental cement is applied to your teeth and the dental veneers are put in place. A special light will be held over your teeth to harden the cement. Our dentist will then remove any extra cement and schedule you for a follow-up exam.
