Protect Your Smile with a Mouth Guard

It has been scientifically proven that first impressions are often based on teeth. Brushing and flossing are naturally the first line of defense in keeping a smile bright, but protective gear is something often overlooked.

Mouth guards are a fantastic defense for your teeth, lips, tongue and jaw. The most common use is to protect athletes by reducing the risk of oral injuries during play, but mouth guards are also used to reduce joint stress for those afflicted by temporomandibular joint disorder and even as a means to administer oral medications.

There are three types of mouth guards: boil and bite, fitted, and stock. A fitted guard is the best choice to ensure the best protection, although it is the most expensive option as it requires our dentist to measure and order a custom mouth guard.

While stock mouth guards and boil and bite guards have reduced costs, they are not guaranteed to provide the best fit and therefore reduce protection. Overall, a mouth guard is a better choice to protect the mouth than foregoing one altogether.
